Quark 5.0 is driving me mad

I've recently begun to use Quark Express 5.0, and I've got rather an annoying problem. Whenever I attempt to resize a text or image box, my page flies out of view. I've slowed my mouse down a bit, but that hasn't seemed to work. I'm certain there's something simple I've overlooked, but as a new user, I can't find that something (curiously enough, InDesign pulls the same tricks).

I would appreciate any guidance.
