PC Doesn't Like Over 60Hz

Hey all,

I have my GeForce4 Ti 4200 overclocked to a 4400.
I switched it to a 75Hz refresh rate and sometimes the monitor switches it back after I restart, even if I had it set to override it.

I tried going a little higher, to 85Hz, just to see if maybe it was just 75 was bad, and it crashed, total loss of video at 85Hz.

Now, I'm at 72Hz and we'll see how it goes.

Why can't I get any higher than this?

What monitor do you have? What resolution and colour depth do you run it at. Your monitor may not be able to support the higher refresh rate at your resolution.

E.g. My monitor car run at 1024 x 768 @ 85 Hz but only 75 Hz at 1280 x 1024 this is what I use most of the time.

Do you have the proper drivers installed for your monitor?

If you are uncertain, go to display properties, settings, advanced and then the monitor tab and see what monitor is installed.

If by chance it says 'default monitor', try downloading and installing the drivers for your make/model monitor.

Video card drivers CAN affect the refresh rate for a monitor...what drivers do you use? Nvidia I'm sure, but what version?

I have seen a few low-end monitors that struggle to run at refresh rates much above 60 Hz.
