Hi

I'm on with Telus DSL and I was happy that I kept the same IP address because I run VPN software on my machine.

I notice if I reboot my router or unplug it I get a new IP address.. You might want to try that... Unplug your router (if you have one) or just power off your cable modem for a couple of minutes then plug it back in again.

I know with the people on cable service here keep the same address forever.

I'd love to be paying for a dynamic IP while keeping a static one. I don't know how often mine changes, my router gets unplugged a few times a month though. Static IPs are a *good* thing, remember? No matter if you are paying for them or not.

I think it has alot to do with the provider.
I have a dynamic IP but I've had the exact same IP for almost 10 months now... but then again the ISP is local so they dont have millions of customers.

Its because of how DHCP works, you renew at 1/2 the lease length, so as long as the lease is active you keep getting renewed, it works off of your MAC address. Get a new NIC and you will get a new IP. DSL typically uses PPPoe which is different as well as VPNs mentioned above.

Note the "Unique ID" column. That is the MAC address of the client. So long as there is an active lease associated with that MAC, you will get that IP.
