Kids How long should leave monitor unplugged before opening?

How long should I leave my monitor unplugged before attempting to open it without receiving a fatal dosage of electricity???

2 weeks? Any suggestions?

I don't know about a monitor but I have seen a TV repairman open my 32" CRT TV after it had sat for a couple of weeks and then discharge it. Nice light show and very loud pop. After seeing that I'd never open one.

the crt itself can hold a massive charge for a long time, months and months. if you do not know how to safely discharge a tube, then leave the cover on the monitor.

I read in a A+ book that some can keep the charge for a couple hours but some can keep the charges for over a year.
