5600xt bad performance

Ok. I have a geforce fx 5600xt, athlon xp 2200, ecs l7s7a2 mobo (with latest bios), 256mb ddr400, all latest drivers, and am getting very poor perfoance. i get around 14,000 for my aquamark score (1683 gpu, 4907 cpu). I get around 6303 in 3dmark 2001, which seems low. Most games run horribly slow, and i have no idea why I have tired many different agp and detonator drivers, and nothing has helped. AA is off, and os is win2k. Any help would be appreciated.

Well you *are* running Win2k as your OS, and even though it's superior to XP I still use XP Pro because of the gaming support. 2k sucks for gaming. (I've tried it)

I gotta make this quick, but did you have a previous card and didn't uninstall/reinstall the drivers before placing in your 5600XT? I'll post more later.

Win2K does not suck for gamming, I have never had any problems, though you might gain a couple of fps with XP, but hey I would rather go for stability.
And the 5600xt is a cut down version of the 5600 which aren't very fast either. Are you running the lastest drivers?

So annoying that nvidia is using ATI's high end card thing for their low end cards.

I'm wondering if anything is wrong with your system at all. The XT runs at almost half the speed of the Ultras, something like 235mhz compared to 400mhz. It's not really a good gaming card.

man if a 5600xt is at 235Mhz then my 5200 128Meg non-ultra card works better than that, at 250Mhz!

The 5600 architecture has its advantages over the 5200.. such as the many compression features that enable it to perform better. If your 5600 XT has the 64-bit memory bus, that may be part of the reason why performance isn't what you expected (but you can't expect that much out of such a low-priced video card). Try uninstalling your drivers and reinstalling with the recent Forcewares from Nvidia, also run a spyware cleaner such as spybot or adaware and clean out all the nasties, and check for viruses with updated definitions.

I have just sold my 5600xt on Ebay ............... i have just brought a 9600xt fir around the same price. the 5600 in one word sucks..... and is a discrase to gaming. ...... in some cases the 5200 beats it. sell on ebay and by a ATI card.
