I would not recommend buying one but I world recommend building one.

For example, the Belkin USB/FW enclosure comes with a lifetime guarantee.

Lite-On, NEC 1300A or 2500 and Pioneer A07 make nice DVD dual rewriter.

G is right but i wouldn't pay that kinda money for a enclosure . whats a lifetime warrenty good for when the part is obsolette in 2 years ?

http://www.dealsonic.com/usb20enfor52.html only 32$ shipped .

get yourself a dual 8x for about 100-150$ put it in it and you are good to go .

I wouldn't recommend an external enclosure without firewire.
It is faster...run hdtach and compare on external data transfers.
You'll be surprised, I was.

Please please please please wait a few more months! Sony is releasing a new Dual Layer DVD writer in both External and Internal Flavors. Whats good about this is you get nearly double the capacity of a regular DVD-R or +R disk. I believe the format is +R for the dual layer and it is DVD-9 Compatiable so it should work with a majority of DVD players. I would highly recomend waiting for it its due out in July.

What he said. Even if you don't need the latest/greatest, when these new writers come out the old ones prices will drop like stones...
