HP Keyboard Volume control not working?

I recently replaced a customers HP 6835 Pavilion desktop system with a:

Celeron 2.4Ghz
Asrock GE-Pro M2 Mobo
Win ME
All drivers correctly installed

The problem is, I can't seem to find a driver on HPs website to make his volume control on his keyboard work. He has some Polk speakers with no manuel nob to control the volume. The volume is controled in the start menu taskbar and on the keyboard. Whenver you press the volume button on the keyboard, no green lines appear on the screen and no sound increases. This makes me believe that the correct drivers are not installed for the keyboard to allow the extra buttons to work. The only thing that gets me is that the volume button doesn't seem to work, but the mute button below does. Maybe they are not related.

Here is what I did:

-Checked HP.com but found just a 5mb keyboard driver update. (Don't think that I need this).

-I checked driverguide.com for some drivers and found some useful ones, but they say for XP, not Me. (not sure if it matters)

-Took the driver off of the restore disk that is used for the Win Me keyboard. No .exe program inside, just drivers.'

Here is what I will probably tell him to do:

-Check device manager to see if the computer is reconizing that keyboard as an HP keyboard or standard keyboard.

-If it reconizing it as an HP keyboard, I will tell him to go into device manager and check for volume control buttons (or related buttons).

-If it doesn't reconize it as an HP keyboard, then I will have him to unistall the driver, reboot the computer, and hope that it notices the HP keyboard and doesn't just install a standard driver again. If it doesn't install a standard driver, I will then tell him to update the keyboard driver by locating the Win Me keyboard driver that I took off of the restore disk and hope that it detects and installs thereafter.

Sound good or does someone have a better idea? I will try to fix the computer remotely (by phone and email) , but if the problem tries to gets out of hand, I will have to ride over there.
