First, a bet. I bet that I am the unluckiest computer geek on the Earth, and right now I'm so incredibly angry that I want to just thrash all my computers thoroughly, throw them away, and never ever touch a computer again.
But then there's something about that glow in your face after the twelfth hour of Civilization 3 hehe.
Anyway, I recently purchased a brand-new Dell Dimension P4 3.2 GHz Hyperthreading, 250 GB HDD, 1024 MB RAM, the works. I thought,
now I'm really going to treat myself a new, fantastic machine so I won't have to face all those problems with my old machines. Yet here I am, writing on my older machine, hoping that my Internet connection will keep me online long enough to post this before dropping me out again (yet mysteriously not being affected by the wormblast virus).
Well, the Dell machine worked perfectly until one dark winter day...
...the hard drive, filled with approximately 170 GB of data not yet backed up (the machine being so new and all I expected no problems), will not work.
I have used a Dell Diagnostic CD, I have tried to reformat, I have tried to reinstall XP, but nothing is helping me; except that I have learned the grim fact that it seems my hard drive is having
an error.
(Diagnostics CD: Finds an error in IDE Drive. Reformat: Stops when checking the disk at 75%. Reinstalling: Stops when checking disk.)
(Starting Windows XP: Very long time loading. Then blue screen of death. Alternatively light blue screen of near-death, CHDSK begins checking integrity or something. Then stops. Then blue screen of supreme death.)
Which led me to downloading
Active KillDisk , hoping it could help me. I made a boot CD, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to work (surprise surprise). I don't have an Internet connection that allows me to stay online for more than a few random minutes anyway, so downloading anything bigger than 200K is being cocky.
On the blue screen of death (see above), I get an error number, which I don't remember exactly in my brain (I think it was 0000021A or something like that), but I found out on microsoft's website it may have to do with a file from Visual Basic.
I did actually have Visual Basic 6.0 installed on the thing. Before the machine stopped working, it became slower and slower in Windows XP until that dreadful day. There was no light outside in the surrounding forests.
But I digress.
I have lost the will to live with computers. Yet I must!
Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope...
