Athlon xp 3000 showing up at wrong speed

I just instaled an Asus a7n8x deluxe mobo and put an athlon xp 3000 with a 333 FSB. I flashed my bios to the newest rev (1007)
But my processor is only coming up as 17.3. When I look at Asusprob, it says the my procs max speed is 3000 but its current is 1733. I went into bios and it was at 133. I tried to change it to 166 with the 13x multiplier. My system wouldnt boot. I dont know what else to do.
I am running windows xp
i have 512 mb of ram

Cant think what else you would need to know.
Please some1 help. I am going crazy

Welcome to the forum!

this is a very common thing now that we have 133 and 166 fsb speeds.

Its almost guaranteed that there is a jumper on the motherboard to allow the 166 fsb speed needed.

you tried to get it to 166 by just overclocking the 133 but it probably pushed the ram and video card too far.

so look for the jumper and set it right and you'll be good to go.

you may have to reset the bios using the cmos reset jumper to boot.
---

if you cant find the jumper, go to the website and look at the manual.

well, the jumper is a little different than I though....either way you should have it on the 1-2 pin setup..it might come on the 2-3 setup by default..in which case youd have to really overclock to get it up to speed..so make sure it is on the 1-2 pins position.

Thanks John for your help.

Ok, alot has happened since i posted this earlier. I have checked the jumper, and it is in the right spot. I flashed my bios to 1007.
after the 100th time lookin, I noticed my CPU Vcore voltage is wrong. I disabled the voice so I never new that my voltage was out of norm. The Vcore voltage is 1.252. Its supposed to be 1.65. When i go to change it, it only reaches 1.5 something. it wont go to 1.65. Now i dont know what to do.

My board is rev 1.04

Flash back to the old bios, I would do. (My one "Yoda" answer for the day...)
