Linksys Router which one?

Hey guys,

I need to upgrade my Dlink A/B router.

I hear good things about the Linksys WRT54G with its unoffical firmwares.
How good is this router?
Does anyone have any problems with it?
How is the Wireless range?

Finaly what is the difference between the WRT54G and the WRT54GS?
Is the extra S at the end worth the $30 extra?

If not do you guys have any recomendations for a new router.
I am looking for something with 4 wired ports, and atleast G wireless, but a A/G variant would be welcomed. I am currently not very happy with DLink so I would perfer to stay away from them.

Thanks

i have the WRT54G and it works great!

dont know about the "unoffical" firmwares, as im running what linksys puts out with no problems.

Distance is great for me.

as for the WRT54GS, i havent heard anything about it or how it works. guess thats something i need to look into tonight.

The Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster incorporates the next generation of Wireless-G (802.11g) networking. SpeedBooster technology is a compatible add-on to standard Wireless-G, which increases "real-world" wireless network performance by up to 35%. Unlike other speed-enhancing technologies, SpeedBooster is fully 802.11 compliant, and a "good neighbor" to other wireless devices and technologies, using a single 2.4GHz channel as specified by the official wireless standard. And, unlike other technologies, with SpeedBooster you'll see an overall speed improvement even when running a mixed network of SpeedBooster and regular Wireless-G devices.

Very good router and wireless card for your laptop too. AWESOME AND VERY RELIABLE. NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. THE VERY BEST IN ROUTERS IS THE LINKSYS WRT54-G SERIES.

Hmm, well it now goes down to this:
Is the speedboost tech warrant the extre $30-40?
In all honesty I barly touch the wireless side and will mostlikely have it off till I get a laptop in the future.

And remember that Cisco owns Linksys now.. and Cisco is Number one in networking gear so we can't go wrong buying a Linksys product IMHO.

There are 2 or 3 out there that offer certain feaqtures that are not shown in the officeal Linksys firmware.
Go to www.dslreports.com
Go to the Forums, Equipment Support and Linksys. There should be several posts with the hacked Firmwares, where to get them and what they do.
