Should I use ata controller card to attach dvd/cd-rw drives?

Hi all,

I have a WD 200 gig HDD that came with a controller card, and need to use it so the HDD is recognized as a full 200 gigs (using the IDE 1 on the mobo, it only reads the drive as @ 120 gigs; Dell 400sc computer). I've noticed my dvd/cd-rw roms don't work as well now as they did on the old set-up (fresh install of XP Pro).

Should I use IDE 2 (on mobo) for the rom drives, or should I use another "slot" on the controller card?

Thanks in advance!

-LC

It's not necessary and, in fact, may not work. Most add-in cards do not support ATAPI devices. You can give it a shot, however, just to see if it does work and make a difference.

Definitely use the motherboard slots for the cdroms
