Windows xp OEM

I was thinking about putting xp on a friends system that I just built. I seem to be having problems getting 98 to run decent. What's the scoop on reinstalling windows xp down the road? Will it let me activate it more than once?. I have heard both ways. Has anyone NOT been able to activate it more than once?

Welcome to TechIMO!!

If you are asking if you can install your XP on your friend's machine with your key and activate it the answer is no.

Reactivating an install ( i.e. new MB, etc. ) can be accomplished.

Lacking information. If you have an OEM version of XP that came with your computer, you can try and install it on a friends computer but it is likely it will be tied to your computer and not transferable.

If you installed a retail version of XP on your computer and now you want to put it on your friends computer, probably not. If in fact you are no longer using it, maybe. You'll have to phone Microsoft and explain the situation.

I should have explained a little better.

I built a pc for a friend of mine, and installed his windows 98se in the new box. I have been having troubles getting 98 to run decent on it. (I posted my problems here if any of you can help http://www.techimo.com/forum/t106422.html)

I would rather get 98 to run because the guys doesn't want to spend a lot of money. But I have almost given up on that.

I bought an OEM version of Windows xp home edition on New Egg. Unless I can get 98 running better I am going to reformat, and install xp. My question is, if, for some reason down the road I need to do a reformat and reinstall of xp, will it let me activate it again? I know with the retail version, you can do that as many times as you want. But I heard somewhere that with an OEM version, it may not activate again.
