speaker/sound card question

i feel stupid asking this, but can i get better sound with this:

i have logitech z-540 (4.1) speakers and a 5.1 capable sound card

how should i have my speakers plugged in? right now i have all the speakers going to the sub and just the one green 1/8" going to the sound card. there is also another 1/8" black wire just chilling. does that go somewhere? is there a way to plug the speakers right to the computer for better sound?

Yep, a 5.1 card can do 4.1 and 2.1, or 2.0. And a 7.1 can do anything lower.

On my Audigy, if has a bunch of ports including a FireWire jack. It's a 5.1 card, so with mine you plug the front sats into port 1, the rear into port 2, and the center channel into the Digital connector, or port 3.

Look for those markings on your card, tell us if you figure it out. Also, make sure that the sound properties in Windows are set to Quadrophonic, otherwise it won't work.

The M3D is useless. Never turn it on unless you are testing something for some odd reason.
