Is there any way to switch between using the four locked pipelines on an ati radeon 9800se and four unlocked ones, meaning locking the original 4 usable ones and using just the 4 locked ones? Furthermore, can I unlock all 8?

.....why would you need to switch between pipelines?

Anyways, yeah you can unlock them by flashing your card's BIOS. I don't know what card you have and I'm not at my PC right now, but somewhere there is a page with all the BIOS's for different cards. Maybe someone has a link.

One more question, while we're on the subject.

What determines the GPU clock speed on the SE, Pro, XT? Are they the same basic 9800 chip? And can you "morph" an SE to be a better performer thru a BIOS flash? I know it's the most "choked down" version, and as such, is reflected in its lower price. Thanks.

the first four appear to be malfunctioning
