Legal Issue on Multiple User Account

Hi everyone..
This is the current situation i am in.

I have about 50 PC system installed with Window XP Professional , connect to a NetWork Drive and BroadBand Access.

Is it possible for me to create about 500 user account where each user could access the Internet , Local NetWorkDrive and Window application from any of the 50 PC ?

May i know do i need to pay Microsoft for the each account created or any legal issue that might arise?

If not , could you offer me some directions to where i could gain access to the revelant knowledge?

Thanks A Million.

as long as each of those 50 PC have a legal license to run XP, you're fine. you can have 500 different users using the pc...doesn't violate anything.

the only possible problem area is that you mentioned that they connect to a network drive/folder. if the network drive is hosted on a microsoft server OS, then you will need to purchase CALs (Client Access Licenses).

CALs come in two forms, Per Seat & Per Server.

What type of network are you running? Are you running a Windows Domain and have you purchased "per seat" licensing?

*edit* Prester John is correct in his statement.

But if you are running a Windows network you need the same amount of CAL (client access licenses) to access those servers which are hosted on Windows (NT/2000 or 2003) servers. Each license would be per seat so it would be the amount of users who access the shared folders on the Windows system at the same time.

I am not really very sure about the exact technical details.
My boss want me to explore the feasibilty as the IT department in the company say it is impossible to do so.

Will find out more about it, but thanks for your assistance.

At least i know where to start from...
