AMD64 / Windows 64bit
Alright I haven't really looked into this but (and this sounds like a noob question) what is the big thing about the 64bit processors? Can they do more applications etc or run faster etc. TY

64 bit doubles the memory paths, ability to multitask etc. Once win64 gets finalized, it will smoke any intel chip. For now, you can download a one year trial version of XP64 beta

No Win xp 64bit wont work on a 32bit processor. Thats why it's called 64bit. The Athlon 64-FX is the high end Athlon 64 bit processor.

win64beta will work without a 64bit chip...I think. But that totally negates using it. The FX series cost big bucks (like 700) and use dual channel RAM. The A64's are single channel only. The FX's are also multiplier unlocked, all other AMD chips are locked.

Well will the 64bit with single channel still blow away the 32bit with dual channel?
I know the FX is the high end but what is the diff? dual channel, higher cache's etc??

The FX's are essentially worthless. AT first, the FX-51 was the top chip but then AMD brought out the Athlon64 3400+, which performs just as good, costs 300 less, and only has single channel memory. So, IMO, FX chips are only for people with wads of cash wanting the l33t status.
On die memory controller means the RAM controller is on the CPU. This allows it to run much faster (bus speed on A64 is like 800mhz, can be scaled to 1.6ghz!)

Can it be scaled to 1.6ghz using the ram or what? I am very confused and very sorry to have to ask these questions, I just haven't been keeping up with the 64bit processors.
