Windows Did Not Start

I got a new laptop and took my old computer home. The old computer was a 1.8 GHz, 30GB HD, 256 RAM running XP Pro with the latest updates. I also had Norton Internet Security and AntiVirus. Two days later I got this message:

We apologize but windows did not start sucessfully.
A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.

safe mode
safe mode with networking
safe mode with command prompt
Last known configuration
Start windows normally

I have tried each of these choices MANY times, but to no avail. No matter which one I pick, it brings me back to the error message. I created a boot disk, but that also brought me back to the error message. I cannot for the life of me find my XP disk. Is there anyway anyone knows to fix it? Thank you
