best to use on-board IDE or ATA card?

Hi,

My new Hard Drive came with a free controller card: a Promise Ultra133 Tx2 ATA card, which led me to thinking - would it better to use this instead of my on-board IDE for my windows drive or not?

Are there any benefits (I benchmarked them and they were exactly the same for speed, apart from the card had slightly lower access times and 1% less cpu utilisation).

My mobo is an Nforce 2 board so they both support the HD's ATA133 speed...

If anyone is interested here's a pic of it all:
(it's usually a lot bluer but it was light when I took the pic!)

Cheers

Neil

There is no adavantage to using a ATA133 controller card on a motherboard that natively supports ATA133.

That's what I sort of suspected, I just hoped it might free the bus up for other stuff or something!

Other than it using up a pci slot, there's not a lot of reason to take it out again, suppose I'll leave it in for the time been...

Cheers for the info.
