Outdoors New PC problems

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I recently built a pc for some freinds of mine, and I have been having nothing but problems. I think most of the problems are with windows 98, but I am not sure.

The computer doesn't seem very stable. It hangs up once in a while. I do have everything working, but it seems that sometimes they (the people I built the pc for) have to reboot the pc to get things working properly, like the printer. I am running window 98se and when I go into system information, and problem devices, there are 3 things listed, all identical. This is what it says: (acpi irq holder for pci irq steering error code= (0x9)

Here are the specs
FOXCONN SUPER CASE Silver/Black MID TOWER CASE with Allied 300W PSU, Model "PC-115A" -OEM

Lite-On Beige 52X32X52 CD-RW Drive, Model LTR-52327S BEIGE, Retail

Seagate 40GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive, Model ST340014A, OEM Drive Only

KRETON 184 Pin 256MB DDR PC-2700

SOYO KM400 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket A CPU, Model "SY-K7VMP2

AMD Athlon XP 2000+, 266 FSB, 256K Cache Processor - Retail

I installed the via 4 in 1 drivers for the mb. What could this error mean? I searched Microsoft's site and didn't find anything. Could I assign a new irq to te problem devices? Thanks for any help.

98se does not handle acpi well at all. Your best bet is a clean re-install after setting the bios power mgmt to apm. It has to do with the way windows shares irq's. (Imo, your getting close to a case of too much puter for the os.)

Could be an IRQ conflict. Check "Sys information" within the "system tools" section of the start menu and click on "IRQ" to see if everthing is "OK".
