cs frozen

Hello i need some help with cs. first off i am on a compaq 5108us with 384 megs of ram and a ati 9600 128 meg graphics card.
i also have windows me and a 40 gig harddrive.

now for the problem. when i enter cs and try to play it freezes
after about 10 seconds. I have no idea whats wrong. and it is very irratating. Every other game i have works fine even farcry.
so any help you could give will be appreciated

have you tried reinstalling steam... it happened to my something similar, reinstalling steam was the solution..

do u have the newest drivers? ATI realesed new drivers recently

i should i just put in the video card three days ago

That sort of thing happened to me. I got mad enough that I reformated and it worked. But hey, it wasn't all bad. I gained about 2,000 in 3dmark2001 and 800 in '03 cuz it cleared the clutter of my comp.

Steam has been a little unfriendly to the ATI cards as of late. I use a 128MB 9500 non pro for my CS'ing. What renderer are you using for the game? I use OpenGL 1280x1024 windowed mode myself--make sure that you aren't using D3D--It makes it dang near impossible to do anything

(man I hope I'm not getting OpenGL and D3D reversed)

Follow other's suggestions, you might have luck trying out the Omega Drivers for your card, or, you might try checking out your sound drivers too. It's not always the video that is your offender, although likely, it is not a given. I had quite a bit of trouble with my sound, it would get crackly and fuzzy--then short out all together and bring my system to its knees. I had to enable EAX in order to get that to stop, but the card has to support that of course.

Check out windows update and see if it has any listings for suggested driver updates on the left hand side of the screen.

im running on the same settings as u but not in a window.
but i cant change them even if i wanted to cause it locks up after about 5 seconds and i have to power down my machine. i think ill try and reformat like monk said.
