looking for software that will rotate an avi file

as the title suggests, google produced the program Fade to Black (I think that was what it was called) but it ended up messing with my avi file fps

Open virtualdub, open your video file, select video->filters->rotate.

//edit:
If you're having problems with avi files that are upside down, you don't need to do that. You can just select 'flip video' from the codec properties during playback.
