Weird freezing problem

I've noticed that when i play games sometimes my comp jsut decides to kind of "lag" or "freeze" for about half a second, then run fine again for another 5 seconds, and lag again for half a second.

I checked me process' and it seams that "System" (not .exe) keeps "pulsing" and lags my computer from time to time. Im guessing a trojan? But i ran AVG and Mcafee freescan, nothing came up.

I can;t end the process either, it jsut comes back.

Weird... any ideas?

Im running an AMD 2500 512 DDR radeon 9600 xt and the latest cat drivers.

"System" is a kernel process that is on all NT machines. You are probably triggering some kernel-mode operation, such as memory paging, which is causing these slow-downs.

Does this happen only in particular games or when doing certain things? Do you notice the harddrive being accessed when they occur?

what board are you using...nvidia for example are known to have unstable ATA drivers that produce glitches...most notably with CD and DVD burners.

Go into your device manager and switch to the default ide controller if you havent already.

If using VIA...there may be a new Hyperion update you can get into.

Otherwise...you may be able to get a program like regmechanic and try it...v1.1 can be installed free I think...I cant remember that so much...but it can help sometimes.

============

Check to make sure the disk drives are installed correctly and if they have the controller interfaces exposed on the underside of the drive you may want to check the chips for cracks or damage...I have seen this happen once. hair line fractures that keep causing boot sector errors on the drive and lost files etc.
