P4 support PC100?

I have a P4 1.7ghz (not sure of mobo type) and I was just wondering if it would support a stick of 256mb PC100 SDRAM, or is that too slow? It would be the only stick of memory in it. (Trying to build a real basic computer out of parts I have.)

If you can run your system (motherboard) at 100 Mhz fsb (or SLIGHTLY higher...then, yes you can use that stick of PC100. AFAIK..the processor doesn't really care about the fsb of the system, as long as it is with the specs of the CPU.

Ram speeds usually determine (within limits) of what you will run your mainboards fsb at.

I must add here that I do not have a clue what fsb speeds your P4 1.7ghz will run at

The memory you need depends on the motherboard, not the processor.

You'll have to get more information about the board. Open the case, and look for a number on the motherboard.

Do a Google search of the number. You should be able to find out who manufactured this board. If it's a name brand, the manufacturer will have a website where you can download the manual.
