Why is AMD better than Intel or is it?

Hi,

I am going to build a PC but I don't know if I should use AMD or Intel. Last time I built a computer I used a AMD xp +2000 and I did not have any problems. Also I heard that AMD processers run hotter and have slower bus speeds.

Which should I use and why?

Thanx

Mainly, you decide which is better through your own experience with the chips. If you were happy with the 2000+, go with AMD. If you want the PC to run cooler and are an Intel fan, go with a nice P4.

I personally prefer AMD through experience.

IMO, AMD gives you more cpu for the $$.
$100 worth of AMD cpu is going to do more than $100 worth of Intel cpu.

Yes...it is really more about bang for buck when it comes to wich is "better"... comparable systems will operate with similar specs but the main differense will be in price...

Welcome to Techimo............................

It's all been said already, the choice is yours.

There are many similar threads here on the subject, read some of them and it still comes out, your choice

Re: Why is AMD better than Intel or is it?

The choice between AMD and intel should be based on your needs and buget. If you want a cheap decent proformance machine go for AMD, If you need something a little better go for an Intel machine, and AMD high-end CPUs currently hold the highest proformance. Most people here will send you to AMD.

This is true of the Athlon xp and below lines, the AMD64 has an 800mhz fsb (I think), same as the fastest intel.
Use these benchmarks to help you decide.

You first need to decide what your buget can be, after that the sort of falls into place.
I'd recommend these systems (minimum cost for the system alone).
Athlon XP 2500+ system $400-$500
Athlon XP 3200+ system $500-$600
Intel 2.8ghz system $600-$700
AMD64 3000+ system $700-$800
AMD64 3400+ system $800-$900

i second that.

if you are going to overclock go with a 2500+...A LOT of power for the money ($70 shipped)
