Applying Thermal Compound

Anyone know a good guide for applying thermal compound ( grease ) to a laptop cpu?? i found quite a few guides for desktops but not many for laptops on google...

Also would aplying thermal compound void my 2 yr comp usa warranty??? ( since i would have to open my laptop )

are you also replacing the heatsink?
I would have to lean towards yes on the void of warranty seeing as laptops are extra sensitive.
Typically they're designed specifically for the components that are currently in there.
Much change and it could have detrimental effects.

well i am actually a noob.. not sure.... to apply thermal paste on my cpu would i have to remove my heatsink and put it back again????????

You will likely invalidate your warranty the second you crack open the casing on your notebook.

As to thermal paste, most notebooks have a thermal interface pad instead of thermal paste. This pad is a certain thickness that can not be replaced by thermal paste depending on the length and flexibiliy of the heatsink's retaining mechanism. You may end up with an air gap if you do not use the factory thermal pad.

If you are definitely sure on the thickness, thermal paste can applied after you remove the thermal pad with a credit card. Clean the heatsink base with alcohol, then apply a thin layer of paste.
