DVD +/- RW Won't burn DVD-R?

Yesterday I burned a movie onto a DVD+R disc and it worked fine. Now, I'm trying to burn a movie onto a DVD-R disc and it's not working. I also researched the capabilities of my DVD Writer and it does read both +/- discs. GSA-4081B is the model. What happens is, I stick the DVD in, it takes 15 minutes to create an image, then when I insert a DVD-R, it writes for maybe 6 sec. then goes straight to finalizing and doesn't finalize. It just sits at "Time Elapsed: 00:00:00" and I try to cancel and it doesn't cancel after waiting a considerable amount of time. I have to shut down my computer and then reboot it to get the disc back out. Anyone know whats going on? I also tried searching for an option to change it from "+" to "-" but no luck. The program I am using is called "DVD X Copy Platinum"

X-Copy is supposed to be an awesome tool...

First off, it sounds like an "embedded error", so there is something somewhere else that is interfering with another's work.

Some versions of the nvidia IDE Controller drivers play up with DVD Dual Burners (I had a prob with Record Now not seeing Liteon 451S Dual Burner)

...do you use an nforce board by chance? If so, either get the windows update for it or uninstall it and just use the Windows XP default driver as it is compatible.

Also, have you tested the process with another disc just to see if that makes a difference?

Another thing that I have read is that some brands of disc are incompatible...maybe using an unsupported manufacturing process, but I am unsure of this.

At the moment, all I know from experience is that it is worthwhile playing around with the IDE Controller drivers in the device manager.

Good Luck

Thanks for the help!

I'm somewhat of a newb when it comes to the hardware drivers and what not. I have doubles and more than one IDE Driver. I included a screenshot to tell you what I mean.

I have tried the process with two brands of disc that didn't work. The DVD+R works but Maxell DVD-R and Memorex DVD-R skip right to "Finalizing" after writing for 6 or so seconds.

I get all windows updates for everything. I do not know if i have an Nforce board or not.
