Systems Registry Change Locks out keyboard/Mouse

Any help would be appreciated. I was trying to help my daughter gain access to her CD r/w drives which have quit working lately. I found some instructions showing changes to make in the registry in order to fully uninstall Roxio which they indicated would take care of the CD device access problem. I saved a copy of the registry in the default file/directory. While following the directions for editing, I noticed that the folder that had been indicated did not include the upperbound/lowerbound files that were mentioned (in the directions). The upperbound file did exist in a couple of other folders below the appropriate one so (embarassing) I deleted them (two, I believe). When I boot up now, it gets to the logon prompt (windows XP home edition) but I can't log in due to the keyboard (and mouse, tab, arrows, etc) not working. I would like to be able to replace the file I screwed up with the saved file, but I'm kind of at an empasse because I don't have a boot disk to work with. Sorry to make this so lengthly, but I guess I'm looking for a download site which would have a boot disk with enough functionality to copy the backup registry file to the appropriate place. The disk would need to be a 3 1/2" size.

Again; Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,
Paul

That is a tricky one Paul

Ill have a think about it for you...

You sound like your fairly proficient with these beasts...but have you tried safe mode yet? To get safe mode you press the F8 key around startup...just keep pressing it when the BIOS screen is finishing....and then choose safe mode from the startup menu.

If you can get into safe mode I think youd be able to edit the registry some more.

Other than that, I will have a look around and see what happens.

Regards

Rohan

Its been awhile but from what I can remember when you boot up -hit F8 and in the menu should be "boot in last known good configuration" or something to that effect- try that or http://www.bootdisk.com

edit- only works for NT /2000 /XP
