xp on older setup

I have been asked to load XP on an older system that is now running win 95 and I am here to ask advise and information on what is actually necessary to run XP this is a non profit group so I am trying to do them a favor and if their machine won't handle XP I will have to recommend a minimum system for them to run xp with as the only operating system they have available now is XP.
I have not loaded XP so what am I in store for? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

it probly will not even install, if it is that old, it will not meet the hardware compatibly list requirements, and if you were so unlucky to get it installed, it more than likely will not run, it would be so slow it would be useless.
your best bet would be to see if it would even take w98se at best.

thanks

I really don't know what the system has as yet I will get the machine on Sunday so will know more then I am like you in thinking that it is too old to even load win 98 but there is always hope. Can you tell me where to find minimum requirements for XP so I don't waste a lot of time trying? I haven't really looked yet at XP and I only know that they have a new copy but I don't even know what version. Kind of jumping the gun

Let us know tomorrow what the system is and we can tell you if XP can be installed.

Thanks everyone for the support I was supposed to get the machine today and find out late that the head of the nonprofit has plans for complete upgrades in the works and that the one I was dealing with will just have to wait--typical--I will just loan her one of my old machines that is twice the one they are stuck with for who knows how long--and let it go at that-- thanks for your support anyway --good to know that help is available
