Trying to upgrade my computer.

I have a HP 6535 and I want to upgrade the processor but don't know what processors I can use with my motherboard. I have a "109931 Cognac 19990723 Motherboard." I believe that the chipset is a Intel 810, if that is what the chip in the middle of the motherboard is. As you can tell, I am try to upgrade a computer for the first time. I have worked on computers, but never tried to upgrade them. The computer has a Intel 466MHz Celeron right now and would like to get it up to something around 1GHz if possible.

Thanks

You probably have a socket 370 board, with that 466Mhz Celeron that came stock on that model.HP says a PIII 800mhz is the preferred cpu for that socket type/FSB speed(100mhz).

Maybe you could upgrade to a cpu faster than 800mhz, but I'm not well informed on the limitations of your motherboard.

So someone will probably come along and help out a little more.

some info here:-

pretty damning review here :-
http://www.epinions.com/cmd-review-1...3931ED37-prod6
(suggests it's not worth spending any money on basically..)

this seems to suggest you might be able to go up to 733
http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/documen...0&cat=prodinfo

unfortunately cannot locate a bios update that might confirm the ability to run a faster CPU.

it sort of hard to say.

the intel 810 chipset could go up to 100mhz fsb...but when they are ieom boards made for big name companies sometimes they are limited as far as upgrades....for instance yours could possibly be limited to only "ppga" celerons which I think would limit you to 533mhz or thereabouts. If it can go to a "fcpga" celeron you might could go to 733mhz....that is the fastest celeron with a 66mhz fsb (I think..I am going from memory)

if it can handle 100mhz fsb then you can possibly go faster up to a ghz or more celeron.

and its possible a p3 would work...a nice p3 would be a healthy upgrade....then again a 733 celeron would be a fairly healthy boost as well.

----

too bad you dont have a freind with lots of spare parts, lol....then again, you can get celerons dirt cheap nowadays.

If you run at a 100MHz FSB go with that!
