Why I have to wait like 4 minutes for Counter Strike or Half Life updates every time i want to play.... Steam applies the same fricking patch every time.......

it should be like battle.net fire the game log in and play.....

I really hate steam too.

But it barely ever updates for me.

But it keeps on crashing after a few days of working great

Steam = teh suck. It has single-handedly driven me away from CS and Half-Life.

well did steam protect you vs cheaters..... or it was created only to deliver content?

Well I think Steam is supposed to be a combination of both. IMO, though it seems to be focused at the delivery of content. Eventually it'll lead to the licensing of games (pay per use) rather than a single pay system.
