please help

xp64 3200
k8t neo msi
corsair mem
9700pro
seagate 80g sata for ops
maxtor 160 sata for media

okay for some reason seagate drive wont boot past windows screen
i think it might have some
thing to do with swaping the boot logo
anyway try to do a clean windows install and it hangs when i press either repair
or load xp.so i decide to put os on maxtor which went fine.
the prob is when i try to set the seagate as a second drive the system wont boot from the maxtor
and it freezes after boot logo.i have bios set to just boot off the maxtor.
what gives.i want my ide drives back this sata sucks.

iwas hopeing to be able to reformat the seagate drive this way and maybe save some stuff
cheers for any wise veiws

Repairing Corrupted or Missing Boot.ini Files
http://sft-cyber.com/Bootini.htm
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/windowsxp_tips.htm

1. Insert and boot from your WindowsXP CD.
2. At the first R=Repair option, press the R key
3. Press the number that corresponds to the correct location for the installation of Windows you want to repair.
Typically this will be #1
4. Type bootcfg /list to show the current entries in the BOOT.INI file
5. Type bootcfg /rebuild to repair it
6. Take out the CD ROM and type exit

So, you originally had windows on the 80GB and then problems arose...forcing you to try the maxtor...

That means there is a windows os on the 80GB still? If so that will cause probs...

There was a detailed discussion of this the other day...so go back and have a look at the NTLDR posts...and see if you can find it...some of the posts there seemed to have good know how.

If there is data on it....that you need to save...you may want to try ghosting it to the 160 drive then disconnect the 80, boot the 160 and use the image viewer to extract whatever files you need from it...then reformat the 80 and try to put it as a second...windows should see it and automatically install it if there is no other OS info on it.

Hope that helps a bit...

Test each HDD individually hooked up to your machine. If each HDD works ok then it may be something to do with incorrectly jumpered Mater/Slave to your IDE 1-2 configurations.

Welcome to TechIMO!!

I would, at this point, disconnect the Maxtor and run Seagate's diagnostic tools on the drive to see whether the drive is at fault.

There will not be a master slave issue as they are both SATA...bit of a slip there.

Are the current Seagate tools any good?

I have not used them for ages.
