PSU/ Mobo prob?????

OK here's the deal. I'm fixing a clients Dell Dimension 4100 machine, it seems that the PSU has gone bad (i think) I have replaced it but I still have the prob,, now when I plug in my PSU tester I only get the +5v light, but if I then remove the P6 connector and check again, all lights come on and the PSU fan spins. So it seems that whenever the P6 connector is plugged in it shorts (I think)

What could be the prob here,,, Do you think the Mobo is fried?

ahh...what power supply did you use to replace it with?

I ask because it may be that the Dell power supply isnt exactly the same as a regular atx supply.

for several years now Dell has been using nonstandard stuff...it looks like a regular atx plug but some of the wires have been changed. So you cant just put a standard atx supply in there.

and I just heard this week that now they have went back to standard atx....so that could be the source of the trouble.

did you use a regular atx supply or a dell supply??

I used a regular ATX, S>>> that sucks. This thing isn't worth sending it to Dell for a replacement. If that is the prob..
