PCI Video Card recommendations

my friend has an hp with a pci slot only for a vid card. he was away for a long time and the only game he plays (america's army) is now too complex after recent updates for his geforce 4 mx440.

what is a decent pci card for him to upgrade to?

found a xtasy 9100 128mb pci here for a decent price i suppose.

he really can't afford to build a new system even though i'm encouraging him to do so; at this point upgrading the card is his only option.

any thoughts appreciated.

as a note, my geforce 4 mx440 64mb card handles america's army. with the last update i had to drop from 1024x768 to 800x600 and that fixed the glitches

I think that is a good choice if he isnt willing to spend more than about $70.00 .

Some cheaper options.

Mepotech has it for 50.00

thanks for the tip butch....i'll see what res he's running and have him give it a shot. for some reason though i thought he was already running 800x600. also, i'll have to check to see how many mb he has. did they make a 32 mb version of the card? i definatly know it's not more than 64mb.

If you search here and at other forums for 9100 PCI you'll probably find a lot of comparisons between it and the 5200. While I can't remember all the reasons off the top of my head the gist of it is that the 9100 is the better choice.

The 5200 received a LOT of poor reviews. It was pretty much a non-performer.

Well, I suggest that you look into the Ati Radeon 9200SE but these cards are crippled by their memory interface being 64-bit not 128.
So if you can find a Radeon 900Pro card (or 9100 PCI), better. It has the same performance (almost) as the 9200se but ... who knows.. maybe you can find a better price.!

Also, this is old but ....

it might help.
