Kids Weird XP Pro problem - often right-click menus don't appear when I right-click!

Hi,

This is such a weird o/s related problem that one of you might just have seen it too...

In my XP Pro install, when I right-click on a browser link or page or image, quite often I'll get the menu appear for a split second then disappear, and I'll have to right-click maybe 4 or 5 times to get the menu to stay on the screen. Once it's on, the menu is fine. However, next time I right-click, I'll get the disappearing menu trick again.

Strange thing is, it doesn't happen in all programs - on my desktop, the right-click menu works fine, and on most programs in my task bar... there's only one it fails on that I can find and that's HD Health - right-clicking it's icon is supposed to bring up a menu, but I have to right-click a few times to get the menu to stay on screen.

I've tried turning menu fade in/out off, disabling shadows, etc etc... all to no avail.

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

Neil

That happens to me when i do but it happens because the computer has not yet boot up completely. I mean i always wait until the computer stops thinking(the light of the HDD goes off)
then i can right click with no props. But if still happens your comp is slow, or you have not enough memory.

What kind of mouse do you have, and what drivers are installed?

erm... doesn't seem to do it anymore

It's been aaages since I checked this thread, I got a "someone just replied" email so I thought I'd check it out.

The *really* weird thing is, it seems to have fixed itself. I can't remember if I've reinstalled recently, or maybe it was installing the latest Autopatcher, but it's ok now (just tried right-clicking on HD Health's icon and it popped the menu fine everytime).

Oh well, one of those strange occurances. I love XP :-)

Cheers
