Modem Trouble: Please help

For a long time, my modem has stopped working and dropped me out of Internet. Usually, re-dialing two-five times helped. But nowadays it just keeps dropping me out. The longest I've managed to stay online is 10 minutes. The time it takes to drop out varies, but is more often than not less than 2 minutes. I have used ad-aware and virus scans without finding anything. It doesn't seem to be the wormblast virus either.

Things to check out.

Are you on a long telephone extension cord?
Get rid of it and install a wall jack.

How many devices are on your telephone system currently?
If you have many phones in the house and or fax machine, answering machine, etc, you could have overloaded your system tothe point that you are getting not enough load to your modem.
Install a direct line and wall jack directly to your service box on the outside of the house. 36 foot limit in length maximum.

You could have older lines running to your house and possibly line noise. Call your telephone company and ask them to check out your telephone line. You may be elegable for an upgrade to your telephone service line.

Cheers!

yeah..nag the phone company and make them check the lines...tell them it seems as if the quality has degraded etc.

---

do you know what the speed of the connection was when you were able to get connected before?

---

also you may try to find out if the ISP you use has a different number(s) you can try....sometimes it is simply a matter of one number having to many people calling in (saturation etc)
