I suppose this is somewhere in the archives but I have started to receive worm viruses on a daily basis in my e-mail. My programs block the virus but is there anyway I can stop the people from attempting to send it. I am thinking will have to change my address again. I didn't save the addresses but they vary and today there were five different attempts.

First of all, the virus is more then likely spoofing the addy that you are seeing.

In other words, "That is not the person sending the virus!"

These work by seaching the infected comp's address book and randomly filling the 'To' and 'From' fields in the e-mail.

Most you can really to IMO is wait until the person that owns the infected system finds the virus and cleans it out.

And since most people don't keep thier own e-mail addy in thier address book it's very unlikely that you'll ever get a message with the correct return address.

the addresses are phony, they are no one I know or have ever had contact with. I won't open them and just delete them since the attachment is infected. My programs cant isolate the virus so I have to delete it right away. I was just wondering if I can prevent them from showing up in my e-mail?

This is not the complete answer, and as nomaxim indicated, the email address you are seeing has been spoofed from an infected computer somewhere whose user has your address archived there.

You have basically 2 options, change your email address (again) or, use a spam filter.. I use Mail Washer Pro..but there are others.

It takes a little getting used to and setup..but after awhile, you can have it auto delete almost all of the emails to you that come from unknown sources or non-friends.

With the use of Mail Washer, you have the ability to view all incoming mails while still on your servers system...mark them as blacklisted, bounce and delete from the server...then, download just the ones you want. As I said..it does take a little time to understand and configure, but IMO, beats changing email addresses every so often.

Hi Rubyred,

If you arent really attached to the email address, I urge you to drop the address, and let all your friends/coworkers know of the new address and let that be that.
In fact I suggest that you start up 4 or more different addresses temporarily, and split them among your friends, etc. When the Virus starts up again(due to your friends infected machine) you will have a much shorter list of suspects to follow up on.

I was plagued with the same virus all last week. At it's peak, I was getting 100+ bogus emails a day. I just deleted them right away. Pain in the buns, but they finally stopped. Haven't received one in 5 days.

I am hoping that will happen, the virus dosent seem to have connected to my computer, I don't open the attachments and my computer attempts to deal with them but cant isolate them. Nothing today yet but we shall see.
