Harddrive installation

Ok got harddrive today and mounted it etc, now the ribbon that came with my mb wont go into the back of the HD. did i buy the wrong thing? or is there a different cable used to connect newer hard drives now?

Make sure the red stripe is closest to the power connector. It should only go in one way. Make sure you haven't bent any of the pins either.

didnt it come with a cable??

some cables (ribbons as you called it) have a "blocked" pin..in other words there are all those "holes" on the conenctor but one hole is filled in....that keeps you from putting it on the wrong way....and the hard drive should have one "missing" pin when yu look at it..the blocked in hole and the missing pin go together so there is only one way to put it on.

You can also just buy a new cable and try it, but I am under the impression that all new drives come with new ribbon cables.
