Outdoors Can't Access Windows Folders from Desktop

Until today my computer was running fine. Then I uninstalled Ad-aware 6 via the Add/Remove control panel and a Microsoft Spyblock 2.0 that after it showed me I had some spyware (but then wanted you to buy it to make it work) and I have not been able to access anything from the My Documents folder as well as other folders from my main screen. I did not remove anything else. I am really stuck because I have important stuff that I cannot open.

The window to the folder opens but when I click on a particular Word, Excel, or Power Point document the whole thing freezes and I have to reboot.

I have scanned the harddrive, defragged, and ran a virus scan (it was clean) and still nothing. My OS is Windows 98SE, P3 1.2 Ghz., 512 RAM, Western Digital Harddrive, etc.

Your help is much appreciated.

Does this only happen to files in My Documents or can you access similar files in a different folder?

Might want to:

1. Run System File Checker.

2. Run scanreg.

3. Boot to Safe mode and see if you can move the files somewhere else.

or

4. Boot to DOS and move the files.

Bill,

Thanks for the reply. It is weird. As a last measure, and quite by accident, as I was about to shut down via the Start button menu I noticed a place to open Documents. So I tried it and it worked. Now I can access my folders directly. Very strange. Again thanks.
