duron 1300 is better considering the athlon 850 is a aged one. the first athlons are not at all similar to the xp (thoroughbred or palomino) of today.

I agree w/ p:

That Duron probably has better features,(Morgan core?). It might have close to the same L1/L2 cache, and MMX and SSE support.

I think it's a good "bargain" chip.

Have you made the "acquisition" yet? If not, what do you plan on paying for it? (There may be better options, i.e., better bang for your buck out there - we just need a budget).

CPU`s in-hand, via car boot, job lot type thing. Both boot up ok and keep temp ok, ran "burnin test 3" and got cpu math errors (100% setting) on duron! Think i could life with that.

Dead broke, so the price was just right.

Thanks for reading.

After thought, is it worth looking into overclocking a duron?

Would be a learning experience!

I ran an overclocked Duron for over a year. Had an 800@980. Had to connect the bridges on the cpu. You can look here for some info:
http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1277&p=5
You might want to look for more updated information as I don't know if the info for the 700 and 800's is still applicable to the newer 1.3 models or not.

Send a message via Yahoo to blubomber
You will not get much OCing out of the duron 1300 if any at all. I believe that the voltage on those is already 1.75 or so. I was running a Duron 1200 for a while and really liked it. I am now using a Duron 1600 on 133bus.

I really like the Durons and dont have any issues with them when playing games or doing anything else.

By the way, a morgan core duron is approximately equal to a thunderbird core Athlon (better prefetch+SSE).
