Kids 9600xt or 9800xt

now this is my current system specs

3200+ xp athlon
1gb corsair 3200LL xms pro
lanparty nf2 rev b
2 80 gb western digital HDD raided (seperate ATA raid controller)
asus 9600xt

now I'm thinking of upgrading the 9600xt to a 9800xt given the performance that the 9600 has given me I'm quite impressed... but want this system to last a little longer... I bought the 9600xt because I never had an ATI before and wanted to test it.. (already have buyer for if I get the 9800 ) and now I know they're an awesome card I was wondering if there would be any point of upgrading.... post to me soon as I wanted to buy it today

It sounds to me, that after a month, you would want to get 10000xt.

So no, there's no point in upgrading. You have a great system, it will last long as it is currently.

How much will you be getting for the 9600XT. If you are getting a good price it might be worth it.

Muno is right, new video cards are right around the corner and prices are bound to drop. When the prices do drop, it is going to be harder to get rid of the 9600XT.

It all depends on prices. If you are getting a good deal on the 9800XT and selling your 9600XT for top dollar, it might be worth it to upgrade. Many people want to wait for new technology before they upgrade. The problem is that new technology is always right around the corner.

well I'm in the uk and I payed £129 for my 9600xt like 2 months ago.... and my friend is gonna give me £100 for it... I was getting the Asus version of the 9800xt which atm is £316... I'm not sure if its worth the upgrade as I get 80fps in ut2k4 as it is maxed out

but I'm thinking more along the lines of future games

Never ever should you invest in future
Technologies change so fast, that future might not be what you're investing in.

For certain, 9600xt will run soon-to-be-out games.

I wouldn't bother upgrading right now. That card is going to be fine for a while. Once that card is no longer hacking it, there is going to be stuff out that is a lot better than the 9800XT.

I agree with Muno, don't upgrade now.
