POP settings always changes to localhost

i use outlook xp all the time to download my mails.. but everytime i press 'send/receive messages' button, the progress just hangs at 0% until it will reach server time out. and also i notice that everytime I checked the POP and SMTP settings, the POP setting always changes to 'localhost'. and the pop server address attached to the username. (ex: dax_brandy/pop.gamebox.net)
I need to know what exactly is the reason for this. is this a virus activity or just another MS headache? how do i fix it?

thanks.

Your antivirus program is changing it to localhost. Which program are you using?

Hello Dax
I use PC-cillin anti virus with PC-cillin's firewall. I use Outlook
Express. When I go in to options I see the same thing.
localhost instead of pop. I seldom use send/receive. I launch
from the quick-launch bar. I don't have a problem, except after
a manual virus scan. Then I have to reset pop localhost etc.

I've got the exact same thing happening with my Outlook too. I have to change it every time I reboot or when the machine wakes up from Standby... very annoying. I'm running PC-cillin too. I've tried Googling for a solution but haven't found anything yet.

Go to the PC-cillin site. Their support staff answered the same
question for me loooong time ago. I've misplaced the print out
I made. Memory isn't what it used to be.

The only other thing I can think of is I use cable for my internet.
I found that when doing an install, install the OS get the internet
connection, down load updates, make sure E-mail is working,
then install PC-cillin & firewall. After that load programs as needed/desired.
