Windows xp professional issues

Howdy, I just bought a copy of Windows XP pro, from my uni. I installed it (upgraded it over my win 98se setup) and now on the desktop in the lower right hand corner there is the text "Windows XP Professional" "Build 2006". WTH????? How do I remove it?

Change your value to "0".

I think you are dead anyway with only that little amount of space left on you system drive-might as well buy a new larger hd and start over...making sure you install xp clean without the 98 on there.
In other words, if I read your first post correctly, you installed xp over the 98. That is asking for nothing but the worst kind of nightmares, as you already see.
If your xp is an upgrade, install it first...part way thru the install it will prompt you for a previous edition which you stick in the cd drive, it verifies the previous version WITHOUT installing it.

I've got an 80gig hd, just a 3gig c drive partition. Yeah, it is a full version....SP1 still hasn't removed the text from the desktop
