Color and resolution loss

After I reinstalled windows 2000 (formatted it) and I went under display panel - Settings, all I saw was 16 bit in the color drop down list and the only options I had for resolution was 640 by 480s and 800 by 600, not any higher... anyone know why to those 2 problems?

Probably need to download and reinstall the newest drivers for your video card. By the way, what video card do you have?

On this comp I have a default one from when I bought it, I think it's called VGAsave, it was fine before I formatted.

Btw, can you tell me how I can update the driver? thanks.

EDIT: If im not mistaken, isn't VGAsave the default by microsoft when your own driver isnt working? So how can I get it back?

Go to this website Aida32 and download the personal edition.
You can use this to tell you what kind of video card you have. Then go to the video card manufacturers' website, download the drivers for your card, and install them.

I installed 3 ATI adapters that seem closest to Rage 128 Pro, and then installed the update, it said 1 or more adapters updated successfully, 1 or more didnt. So After I resstart, it still used the default VGAsave...

Is your card an AGP card? Look in Aida32 again under display>GPU. Them look on the left hand side for bus type. Does it say AGP or PCI?

It's grayed out, nothing is there... positive it's rage though, I dug up the box the comp came in and and inside says video card is indeed rage.
