I think my computer is stoned.

Someimes, when I click "Restart", it shuts down.

Other times, when I click "Shutdown", it restarts.

And sometimes it does what it's told.

Any ideas?

What OS, what service pack level???

My W2K box usually won't reboot, shutdown, or log off unless I tell it twice

My xp box wont shut down if it's been on for a couple of days. I have to restart it manually. This is quite common.

I'm sorry, I forgot to include the OS.

Windows XP, Whatever the most recent service pack is. It updates on it's own.

Hmmm, I have not had that issue on XP, only 2000 and that is rarely. Check to make sure that you have no conflicting hardware in the Device Manager, check your power options. Try changing them to not monitor anything, also power settings in the BIOS.

Sounds like you need to take it to some computer obediance classes.

You may want to check for viruses and/or spyware.

Hmm, was thinking the motherboard front pannel connectors at first, but I'm not sure now.

What happens if you shut it down by hitting the power button? (It's a good thing you can do that these days, really freaks n00bs out like my mom when I shut her comp down that way)
