linux partitioning problem

Hi,
not sure if thisis the correct place but I've been having greif installing linux which is the subject of a thread in the linux section....
Anyway having backed everything off and reinstaled windows fresh i have several possible solutions to try from techimo and mandrake
HOWEVER....when I try to install mandrake tells me my disk is fragmented and has bad sectors.
I've left plenty space from the new install (didn't install to many programs)
I've run defrag and chkdsk , also ran check and optomise in norton
No errors found at any time

anyone any ideas or suggestions , coz i recon with the answers I have to the several other problems if i can get around this i should be able to install

Thanks

Steve.
