Which IDE plug for slave, and which for master?

I have an MSI KT3 Ultra 2 mobo, and two Maxtor Plus9 HDDs. One is set to slave, and the other to master.

Does it matter which way around i plug them into the IDE cable?

If so, which plug is for the master, and which is for the slave?

Thanks in advance

If you have the jumpers set to Master/Slave then it doesn't matter which HDD you plug into the end of the cable and which HDD you plug into the middle of the cable. It would only make a difference if you had set each HDD to C/S (Cable select) in which case it would take the first HDD it finds ion the cable and call it the master and then allocate the second (or end) one to the slave position.

Actually that is not correct IF you are using an 80 conductor cable.
With an 80 conductor cable the end cable (black) is the master and the middle (grey) is the slave.

Configuration Using Cable Select

I didn't know that it would work your way. It would have drove me crazy if I had come across one set up like that and couldn't have got it to work like I thought it should have.

So, thank you too.

Just jumper master and slave, and you won't have to worry about cable position.
