Nero/Image Recorder problem...

so I am trying to make a simple data CD and burn a 130mb file onto a cd-r. When I use nero and try to burn it... it asks me to save it as a .nrg or .iso, if I try to cancel it aborts. I don't want to burn an image file... just the file itself. When I do save it as one, it goes through the burning process but nothing is burnt on the CD. I tried to burn directly using winxp... however it says there is no cd-r in the drive. I have burnt DVDs and it reads CDs fine. It started doing this because I got the Liteon DVD/CD burner, how can I resolve this? Thanks.

there is a huge recent nero update and I would also go to liteon for firmware updates as well...
