NFSU Delay problems?? TI 4200

Okay, system specs:
Athlon XP 2400 overclocked slightly from 133 mhz to 143 mhz.
Abit Siluro GE Force4 TI4200 64/128 mg
PC2100 Mosel HighPerformance mem (2X256)=512mg
13.5 gig IBM Fireball Plus HD
13.5 gig Maxter HD
Soundblaster Live
ECS K7VTA3 Rev.8 MB

When I play NFSU, setting my display settings to HIGH PERFORMANCE and also setting game settings to low I have this 1/2 second delay every so often in game, it will pause for like 1/2 second then go again for about 5-10 seconds then do it again, like it's reading the game every 5-10 seconds? The game plays fine, it's fast, runs well, never locks up, i put it back to "blend" on my display settings for pc and med graphics for game. Is it a program running in background or what??? Or do you think it is the card? The specs on card is core 250/ mem 500 standard, not overclocked, i have tried overclocking it to but same thing?
any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks

anyone ??? is it direct X 9 that the card is having trouble with, because even with hardly anygraphics, it still does it. I know the card is better then that and can run the graphics at a higher rate then low. My FX 5200 and Extasy 9200LE never had a delay?

try turning off some programs running in the background say your virus scanner etc. and see if it helps. Also make sure AA is off and Vertical Sync are off and try it again.
