Wireless Gaming B vs. G

i have a friend who i'm going to help set up a wireless network. his sole purpose is so his sons can multiplayer game over the network. going to be a max of 3 (most always 2) computers on the network.

question is this.....is 802.11g going to be much more advantagous than b? i know for transfering files, etc. g will blow it out of the water, but for multiplayer games....mostly driving/flying games.....will b be ok?

Doesn't g run at a higher frequency so other wireless and micro waves can't disrupt the signal? If so, I'd say yeah it's better, but then again, you'd have to fork over extra $$.

Turning on my microwave has never affected my signal.

B and G both use 2.4Ghz. For gaming it won't make a difference.

for gaming it will not matter much if its g or b..... but for file sharing it will be a lot better.....

Make it simple write down what would be the use of the wireless network and check out what would be the best option....

yeah...was just talking to him. mostly for gaming, he doesn't plan on transfering large files. probably stick with b for cost savings.

not that it matters here, but just curious...does 802.11a operate at the 5mhz frequency or 2.4mhz also? thought i remembered one protocol using that frequency.

thanks all for the input.

802.11a operates at 5, they are some wireless access points and routers that have both standards A and G....

But A is more expensive as far I know and the area of service is small than G....
