Can't Burn Audio CD w/WMP9

I can't burn audio CDs (.cda format) using Windows Media Player 9. Opening the "Copy to CD or Device" window, I get a "No Device Detected" in the right window. Pressing F5 for refresh does nothing.

I've tried installing the Creative CD burning engine twice. Going to the Roxio site, it said it didn't detect the engine and I installed. The install said that it was successful. Upon reboot, same problem. I tried this twice.

This might become an issue if I want to use any of those music downloading services that use wma files. iTunes works just fine. The iTunes program will burn a mix and match playlist without any problem. I have couple of programs that should convert the wma files into something else that will be handled by another program. But I'd like to reduce the hassle.

Albatron PX865PE Pro; P-4 2.4 (533); 1 GB RAM; 80 GB HD; WXP Pro SP1A w/all updates; Roxio 5 and Nero (no conflicts). All kinds of multi-media: Real Player; QickTime; ATI File Player. Nothing appears to conflict.

The only problem that I know of is that Windows Media Player 9 will not burn an audio CD.

It appears the problem isn't uncommon. But doark myself didn't realize that both my Roxio 5 and Nero 5 will burn wma files. Never messed with them before. But it looks like I might in the future. Therefore, problem solved. I was just worried that if I bought some tunes from the wma places, I'd have to convert them first.

Apparently, the device isn't supported. Somewhere in the bowels is a list of supported devices. Since all of these devices are manufactured by the same outfits, some hack the registry by changing the name of a similar device under another brand name. I don't know the name of another twin.

But even at that, my computer is otherwise working just fine. I have an alternative. I don't want to risk winding up with a CD burner that won't burn under any circumstance because I hacked around!
